WHY ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP IS NO FRIEND TO WRESTLERS- Can Promote fungal infections

Updated: Mar 29, 2022

If you shower after practice and use antibacterial soap only, you could be promoting fungal infections!

Antibacterial soaps do exactly what they claim to do, they kill bacteria only. When it comes to protecting yourself from fungal or viral infections, using an anti-bacterial soap will not be a good strategy.

Good and healthy bacteria are stripped away by antibacterial soaps. They are actually your first line of defense against infection. It is important to maintain a healthy skin flora through proper hygiene in order to prevent skin infections. By killing all of the bacteria on your skin, you're essentially creating a level playing field for fungi and viruses. For your skin to have a normal flora, bacteria must compete for space with fungi and viruses.
